Authorities in McDowell Area, North Carolina, are cautioning inhabitants to "act currently to save your life" as avalanches and floodwaters debilitate the Lake Tahoma dam.

The urban areas of Marion and Old Fortification – which have populaces of 7,800 and 900, separately, as indicated by NBC News — and others living beneath Lake Tahoma are experiencing required clearings following overwhelming precipitation of four to six creeps more than 24 hours, as per the National Climate Administration.

A subsequent avalanche has "traded off the respectability" of the Lake Tahoma dam, the office said early Wednesday morning.

The NWS announced that floodwaters "have achieved levels not seen since the September 2004 surges related with Sea tempests Frances and Ivan."

Tweets by the NWS caution "ACT Presently TO Save YOUR LIFE!" and "THIS IS Perilous. Regard ALL Clearing Requests Promptly!"

Those not undermined by floodwaters are told to protect set up and not travel unless they are following clearing orders.

Safe houses for evacuees have been opened at the YMCA in Marion, the Glenwood Baptist Church and Old Post Baptist Church, as per Weather.com.
